Congratulations to everyone who opened their results today and found out they have a place at the University of Southampton!

New Peer to Peer Support Project Coming in September!

In time for the new academic year SUSU is creating a new Peer to Peer project, to provide extra mental health support for University of Southampton students, and is looking for people to help lead it.

The project comes in response to a greater demand for mental health peer support among the student population and findings that peer support is ”more accessible and acceptable to students than professionally staffed services”. There is currently only one counsellor for every 5667 University of Southampton students and SUSU is looking to fix that.

Wessex Scene Nominated for National Prize

The University of Southampton’s student magazine the Wessex Scene has been nominated for this year’s Ones to Watch Student Publication of the Year Award. The Award goes to a publication who have ”constantly hit high standards of journalism” and is chosen by a combination of public votes and a decision by an expert panel.

Building Work Continues

Following on from Evan’s announcement that the ‘Old’ sports hall is being renovated and fitted with a brand new floor surface, SUSU can announce the building of a brand new Membership Hub above the Stags’ Head.

 

The decision passed through Union Council before the end of term to place students at the heart of student activities and provide one place to answer every concern. The Hub combines the Democracy, Student Activities, and Advice Centre offices in one single space with places and resources for all societies to use.

Two weeks to go until exam results!

It’s an exciting time in SUSU as we get ready for Freshers’ in September.  However, most exciting of all is August 15th when prospective students find out their A-Level results.

With just over a month and a half until Freshers’ Week, here at SUSU and the University of Southampton we are all getting ready with a program of events, activities and induction for our new members.
