Speakers announced for Inspiring Women evening

Monday 18 November will see SUSU host a special Inspiring Women evening. Taking place in The Bridge, from 6.30pm, the free event will feature drinks, canapés, a selection of talks and the chance to question some amazing women.

First to talk will be Tessa Harrison, Registrar, University of Southampton. Tessa’s role sees her provide leadership to seven professional services at the university. These feature everything from Communications & Marketing to Student Services. Since starting a career in Higher Education in 1989, Tessa’s career has also seen her lead a number of cross–institutional projects including a substantial change programme to deliver a new‚ integrated Academic Registry. She is currently the Vice-Chair of the Association of University Administrators‚ a member of the Association of Heads of University Administration and a member of the Board of the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education.

Parvin Damani MBE will also be talking during the evening.  Living in England for the past 36 years Parvin trained as a State Registered Nurse and State Certified Midwife at the Royal London Hospital, in Mile End before moving to Southampton in 1986. As well as a Master`s degree in Health Promotion and a Counselling Diploma, Parvin was elected as a Labour Councillor on Southampton City Council in 1996 and in July 2001, Parvin’s work in the NHS on community development and race equality was  recognised when she was awarded an MBE.
