Student journalists to attend Student Publication Conference in Nottingham

In General

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Several student journalists from Southampton will visit Nottingham Trent University at the beginning of May as they attend the second ever Student Publication Conference.

Writers from Wessex Scene and The Edge are preparing to attend the event by readying entries into the awards categories, in an attempt to win recognition for their hard work at the awards ceremony which will take place on the Saturday evening. Categories include Best Reporter, Best Design and Outstanding Commitment, amongst others. The Best Publication accolade is sure to be one of the most contested as the magazines and newspapers from universities up and down the UK fight it out to win the title.

The event – which has been abbreviated to SPANC – first took place at University of Southampton last year, when it was established by the then VP Communications, David Gilani. It was created to echo the conferences held to celebrate best practise in television at the NaSTAs and radio with the SRC.

The weekend will feature workshops and discussions with industry professionals from various publications around the country. The conference is also an opportunity to network with other student journalists and share ideas and experiences.

The Student Publication Conference will take place from 3 – 4 May. For more information about nominating a student for an award, or on attending the conference, check out the Facebook event.
