Freshers’ Round-Up: Welcome to Private Rented, Bencraft, Connaught and Erasmus Park!

Any incoming Fresher who’s worth their salt will know by now that SUSU have got a whole load of huge events planned for you during your first six weeks at Southampton – and the easiest (and cheapest) way to make sure you don’t miss out is by getting your hands on one of our infamous Masterpasses, available only at the SUSU Box Office.

 

The event to kick off the whole season is definitely not one to miss – the first UV Rave Welcome Party will be open to any Freshers moving in to Bencraft, Connaught and Erasmus Park halls, … Read the rest

Students Adventures Trading announcement

In General

It recently came to our attention that one of SUSU’s international volunteering and fundraising partners, Student Adventures ceased trading as of last night. We have had assurances from the charities involved that the students already on a trip through Student Adventures, including the project currently underway in Peru, are 100% safe with all flights, accommodation and trips have been paid for already and will continue as planned.

Sabbs talk sustainability

BEES (Business Ethics and Environment Students) recently held a sustainability meeting with the SUSU sabbs. The team decided that this year, their group goal would be to focus on employability.

 

The sabbs brainstormed ideas on improving sustainability within the SUSU focused on reaching more students with knowledge and skills relating to sustainability.

 

 

These practices, concentrated on saving water and energy and on promoting local produce over imported foods, should lead the students union to a more environmentally sustainable future. Whatever you’re into, there are loads of things to see and explore in Southampton.

 

Arts

Highfield Campus alone has the John Hansard Art Gallery, The Nuffield Theatre and Turner Sims Concert Hall, and those are just a few of the arts in Southampton. Our music scene is growing with venues including The Joiners, voted Britain’s Best Small Venue by NME in 2013. If musicals are your thing then the historic Mayflower Theatre regularly hosts prestigious touring shows and the nearby Southampton City Art Gallery also offers high-quality exhibitions.
