Any incoming Fresher who’s worth their salt will know by now that SUSU have got a whole load of huge events planned for you during your first six weeks at Southampton – and the easiest (and cheapest) way to make sure you don’t miss out is by getting your hands on one of our infamous Masterpasses, available only at the SUSU Box Office.

The event to kick off the whole season is definitely not one to miss – the first UV Rave Welcome Party will be open to any Freshers moving in to Bencraft, Connaught and Erasmus Park halls, as well as Freshers who will be living in Private Rented accommodation for their first year at Southampton. With all these halls coming together, the Cube is sure to be packed for a great first night as a student, including top DJs and UV Giveaways, as well as the new ‘Grab a Grand’ competition, where some Freshers will win a total of £1000 over the night!

Entry to this first Welcome Party on September 20 will be included on the Outgoing Masterpass, and doors will be open from 9pm to 2am – but it’s best to get down there early as queues tend to be manic!

There are plenty of other welcome events in these first few days of the Freshers’ season; especially for Private Rented Freshers. Many students moving straight into Private Rented accommodation (i.e. student housing) rather than halls worry that they’ll miss out on the social life and excitement of halls life, but the Private Rented JCR are on hand to tackle that worry straight on. On 17th and 18th of September, there will be meet-ups in the Bridge (from midday until 2pm) so that you and your new housemates can meet other Freshers from other houses, as well as the Official Private Rented Welcome Evening on the 19th. This will also be held in the Bridge, from 7pm until midnight, and will be a pub quiz and curry exclusively for Private Rented Freshers. Entry to all these events is absolutely free.

For any students in Glen Eyre and Chamberlain Halls on the 20 who are twiddling their thumbs waiting for their Welcome Party the next evening – not to worry. There’s a huge ‘Speedmating’ event (you get the idea) in Glen Bar from 7pm, also with free entry.
