Get home safe! Transport details for Freshers’ 2014
Nights out in a city you don’t know can seem like a daunting prospect, and that’s why SUSU want to ease your anxieties and make sure you don’t have to worry about how you’re going to get back to your home.
The safety bus is run by the Union for students, and makes sure you can get back home safely, for a reasonable price, with journeys costing a bargain price of £1.50. What more, travel passes are available to buy from the SUSU reception and Box Office.
Also, as a special introduction, if you are lucky enough to have an Outgoing Masterpass, safety bus picks up are free of charge on the specific events listed below, with return journey’s costing £1.50.
Not only will the safety bus be running for all night-time freshers’ events, but it will continue to run throughout the year on evenings when there are events on the Highfield campus, so you needn’t stress about your travel arrangements.
For students at our Winchester campus, we’ve sorted out some extra special coaches to ensure you can enjoy the Freshers’ Week which you deserve.
As always, Unilink buses will also be running, and there is a good taxi service around the city, so as long as you can remember the name of your halls of residence, you’ll be able to get home safe and sound.
All of the details of the coaches and safety bus times and dates can be found below, but there are also a few points to note. Private rented students can catch the safety bus from outside Blockbuster in Portswood, while pickups and drop offs for Bedford Place will be opposite Subway on London Road.
Plus, we will also be working with West Quay Cars to provide a taxi safe scheme. The way it works is if you’ve ever lost your phone or have run out of cash and can’t get home just ring up this number 02380 999999 quoting the STUDENT TAXI SCHEME. Then you just wait for your text message and check the taxi registration matches up before getting in.
When you get home, sign the driver’s receipt and give the driver your Student ID. Then all you have to do is wait 24 hours and give your receipt in at SUSU reception at Union Building 42, pay your fare and you will get your Student ID back.
(Please note a £2 admin fee will be charged to cover the drivers petrol money and time.)
We hope you have a fun time during your Freshers’. Our main priority is that you remain safe, so please take full advantage of these transport services to make sure you have a great time.
