Welcome back to SUSU
So here it is, another semester is about to begin, and a whole host of wide-eyed first year students are pouring into Southampton. But don’t fret, we haven’t forgotten about the experienced students amongst you. We’re excited to see you too!
In all of the Freshers’ Week shenanigans, we don’t want you old folks to feel neglected by your dear Union. Your return to Southampton might be tinged with sadness, leaving behind those summer months and holiday memories, but we want to make sure you have the best year yet.
For that reason, we wanted to let you know about all of the great stuff going on around Southampton in the next week for you to get stuck in to as you catch up with all of your mates.
Obviously, the Bunfight – which will take place on Wednesday (24.09.14) – is excellent for students of any age. Perhaps this could be the year you take up salsa dancing, learn to DJ, or go skydiving? There are over 300 societies to pick from including 80+ sports clubs and more than 30 performing arts groups, so there really is something for everyone.
Also taking place on this day is the launch of our brand new Hollywood diner on Bar 3. The area has received a complete transformation over the summer months, so it seems only right to hold a night which celebrates the new space. Starting at 6pm, music will be provided by local DJ duo Soul 45 who will get the night going with their US-themed set, packed with funk, soul, R&B and reggae. On top of the music entertainment there will be vibrant cocktail flairing!
There will also be some delicious tasters from our new eateries including the traditional Minghella ice cream parlour! Click here to get your ticket before they sell out.
Other things to get involved with include a BBQ and… tractor on the redbrick thanks to Brothers Cider on Thursday (25.09.14), and for the curious souls interested in finding out about some local businesses (and hopefully getting some freebies!), the Freshers’ Fayre will take over SUSU on Friday (26.09.14).
If that’s not enough, election season will soon be upon us once again. Now is the time to get start thinking about representing the student body as next month elections for Union Council, course representatives and JCR officers will all take place. Keep an eye out for further details about the process of nominating yourself and voting here, and drop by the Democracy Stall on the concourse on Monday (22.09.14) for more information.
We’re ridiculously excited, welcome back everyone!
