After all of the waiting and anticipation, Freshers’ Week 2014 is well underway, and as you already know, we have a jam-packed schedule of events and fun stuff for the whole week (and beyond!), and today is no exception.

We’re a few days in, and we wouldn’t be surprised if some of you are feeling a little worse-for-wear. Do not fear though; SUSU has lots of support structures in place, so whether you’re missing home, feeling down, or after some handy hints and tips, come down to the Student Survival Day between 10am and 4pm on the Red Brick area outside SUSU.

There will be everything from our internal support services (Enabling, Advice Centre, Nightline etc) to the ICE (In Case of Emergency) bus – as well as charities such as Coppafeel and Sexpression!

The fire brigade will also be dropping by to teach us the importance of fire safety with live chip pan demos going ahead at 10:30, 11:30 and 1:00.

The Red Brick will be a good place to stay too, as the second of our ‘Random Happenings’ will be taking place. Not to give too much away but today there will be lots of clowning around…so make sure you come down there at 1pm for some circus themed fun!

Later on, there’ll be loads of things to do where you can just chill out with your mates. Bad Neighbors, which tells the story of a young family living next to some naughty students (wink wink) will be on at Union Films (SUSU’s in-house cinema) at 5pm. Then at 8pm, prepare to get tangled up as Peter Parker returns in The Amazing Spider-Man 2; juggling his high school sweetheart with fighting the bad guys. Popcorn at the ready!

The Bridge will be cracking up in hysterics this evening as not one, but TWO Freshers Laughter Lounge showings will take place. Some of the best comedians in the UK will be right here at The Bridge bar in SUSU, performing especially for you guys.  Comedian Joel Dommett will be headlining while  Phil Jerrod will be opening (find out more about him here) and Andrew Ryan will be our MC.

The first showing at 6pm is for students at Bencraft, Connaught and Mayflower, while the second (8pm) is for those living at Glen Eyre or in private rented accommodation. It’s free with an Easy Going Masterpass, and depending on demand, tickets for £4 will also be available.

For those over in Winchester, if you don’t fancy heading down to Southampton, why not relax at the WSA Cafe and take part in their legendary quiz? It kicks off at 6pm, and there might just be a special prize for those who are fiendishly brilliant with their general knowledge.

If you’re still not exhausted after all of that, the second epic block party will be taking place in Bedford Place. Like a cheese tasting evening but for clubs, you’ll be able to sample a range of mature delights from the Bedford Place club scene. Loads of bars and clubs will be throwing their doors open just for you and your beautiful Out Going Masterpass.

…and here’s a helpful hint. Whatever you do this evening, make sure you’re up bright and early tomorrow to get to the Bunfight early-on tomorrow. We are expecting queues, so just remember, the early bird catches the worm.

It’s going to be a great day – so get out and enjoy yourselves! As ever, if you need any more information, check out the SUSU calendar or get in touch on Facebook or Twitter.

Remember, whatever you’re doing, share your snaps and comments with us online using the #HelloSUSU hashtag!
