Friday Freshers’ Fayre fun

In General

Reading Time: 2 minutes

We’re sure you’ve heard a lot about Freshers’ Fayre. It’s one of the definitive events of Freshers’, so make sure you’re one of the savvy ones who gets there early to catch all of the freebies!

In case you’re unaware, the Freshers’ Fayre is the opportunity we give to external businesses to come in and talk to you… and give you stuff! Filling rooms and rooms of the SUSU building and beyond, we’ve invited these people in so that you can get to know about businesses which we think you’ll be interested in, and who can give you some excellent offers. If you have no other reason to go, make sure you attend to get your degree’s worth of free biros and notepads. It all kicks off at 10am and will wind up by 4pm, but we expect LONG queues, so get there early to avoid disappointment.

Before, or after you go into the immersive experience of Freshers’ Fayre, pop by the Red Brick area to put your own message on the Wall of Fears. Whatever you’re anxious or worried about, you can write it down, stick it up on the wall and see what other people have written to make you feel better about yourself. You’ll be surprised at how cathartic this can be, and how many other people are needlessly worrying about the same things. The wall will be up all day so make sure you swing by for 5 minutes of peaceful reflection.

Our final ‘random happening’ will be taking place at the earlier time of 11.45am today, and believe us, it’s something you don’t want to miss, so stick around the Red Brick area then to find out what it is.

Later on, those wanting to find their sea-legs can meet outside The Stag’s Head pub on campus to chat with Wessex Sailing Club. At this informal meeting, you’ll be able to get to know the committee and find out how to get involved.

After a long day of grabbing freebies and to celebrate your first week in Southampton, we can think of nothing better than a night out with your new mates tonight! Students in Winchester can expect an alternative experience at an evening of Afrobeat in WSA Cafe, while students at Highfield Halls will be descending on Sobar in Portswood. Glen Bar will be transformed into a holiday paradise for the Tiki Beach Party (so remember to dress accordingly) and Monte students will have to get creative to the ‘Come as your Degree’ event. If those aren’t enough to pique your interest, The Cube at SUSU will once again become a ravers dream with music from three different DJs at our silent disco!

It’s going to be another busy day, but we hope you’ve had a great first week in Southampton. We’ve heard some great stories so far, but we want to keep hearing from you, so remember to keep using the #HelloSUSU hashtag on social media!
