What is Blackout?

Blackout is a campaign that aims to raise awareness about how much unnecessary energy we waste! Not only does this lead to high energy bills but it also impacts the environment in several ways.

Blackout is organising an evening where students and staff will be recording and turning off every non-essential electrical item across Highfield, Avenue and Winchester campuses!

Not only is this campaign and event beneficial economically but it also aims to encourage a more sustainable behaviour at university which you can even take and apply at home!

Last year, with 250 volunteers, blackout saved over £1600 and enough energy to power 5 family homes for a whole year! These results show that by changing our behaviour towards energy, we could save over £200,000 annually!

When and where is Blackout?

Blackout will be taking place on Friday 14th November

What will I get out of getting involved?

Just for taking part you’ll get a free hoodie, free pizza and exclusive entry to a Blackout Party at The Bridge, home of the specially created Blackout Cocktail! Getting involved will also earn you Graduate Passport points, add something to your CV and help make the University of Southampton more sustainable for the future.

How can I get involved?

Blackout needs students based in every campus but if travel is a worry for you, don’t worry, as transport will be provided between Winchester School of Art and The Bridge!
