A positive Blackout!
If you’re thinking this has to do with the Stags Head Beer Festival this week then you’d be wrong!!
Southampton Blackout is back!
Blackout is the main sustainability campaign run by the Students’ Union & The University. With a huge volunteer base trained in energy auditing, it is the biggest switch off and energy audit of its kind. Highfield, Avenue, Boldrewood and Winchester campuses will be switching off all non-essential electrical items on 14 November for the University of Southampton’s annual energy audit. Blackout plays a crucial role in reducing unnecessarily high energy bills by encouraging staff and students to apply more sustainable behaviour at university. Previous results of the energy audit showed that by changing our behaviour slightly, we could save over £200,000 annually, so thinking about what energy we use really pays off!
Blackout volunteers will be visiting the campuses and switching off lights, computer monitors, printers and many other electrical appliances to conserve energy. Blackout also encourages students in the Southampton area to support the effort and switch off in their own homes.
