SUSU wins Learning at Work Week Award
We have been awarded The Pearson Best Event Award for Promoting and Learning Environment by the Campaign for Learning. This award was given after SUSU partook in Learning at Work week 2014. The week represents a chance for staff members of organisations that take part in the week to learn new skills. The course itself is not prescribed, but rather encourages employers to make sessions and workshops available in skill areas they feel would benefit staff most.
Each year, a selection of organisations that carried out a successful campaign for Learning at Work Week are awarded prizes. In 2014, winners of such awards included Argos, Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, and SUSU! The Students’ Union achieved its award in the Promoting a Learning Culture category, which evidences the effort SUSU put into promoting continual learning among their staff members. The Learning at Work week held here contributed to SUSU obtaining Investors in People status, and mention was given to its learning based culture that allows employees to make decisions about their own development. The week was described as ‘engaging and thought provoking.’
The campaign started with the aim of providing learning environments for staff members not traditionally focussed on in professional development plans. It advises course structure and workshop ideas for employers who want to offer their staff a chance to develop ideas and learn new skills that are likely to be of benefit both to the staff member and to the employer. Learning for Work Week 2015 will take place from the 18 – 24 March 2015.
