Getting Home Safely…

In General

Reading Time: < 1 minute

It’s the end of the night, and you’ve found yourself alone in Portswood, desperately rummaging through your pockets to find some spare change for your journey home. Do you walk home? Do you hope and pray a taxi driver will take pity on you and take you back? If this sounds like you, there’s a scheme in place designed to ensure that if you’ve lost (or spent) all your money, or are in a vulnerable position you can still get home safe.

The Student Taxi Scheme is run in partnership with West Quay Cars to provide a taxi safe scheme. If you don’t have any money on you and you need to get home, just call 02380 999 999 and quote “Student Taxi Scheme“. Then all you have to do is wait to receive a text message telling you that your taxi has arrived, and make sure that the registration number on the car matches the one quoted in the message. Once you’ve verified that it’s the right car, hop in and get yourself home. Upon arrival, the driver will ask you to sign a receipt and you will need to hand over your student ID. ¬†Wait 24 hours, and your ID will be brought in to Reception in the Students’ Union (Building 42) where you can collect it, hand over your receipt and pay your fare.

Please note a ¬£2 transaction fee will apply to your bill to cover the driver’s petrol costs and their time.

Our priority is that you remain safe whilst living and studying in Southampton, so we advise you to take full advantage of this scheme as well as the Safety Bus (click here for more information) to make sure you always get home safely.
