The Safety Bus Returns in January!
Worried about how you’re going to get back from your late nights at the Library in the New Year? Wondering how to get to and from Jesters on a budget during Refreshers? Well worry and wonder no more, as the trusty Safety Bus will return in the New Year to transport you door-to-door wherever you want to go.
For just £1.50 to travel home (if you live within 3 miles of campus) and just £4.50 to get to Winchester, it’s cheaper than any bus or taxi you’ll find, and it’ll usually be parked right outside the SUSU Shop/ next to the Redbrick for your convenience.
Getting back from Jesters or Sobar will cost you just £2 using the Portswood Safety Bus, which runs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays (term-time only) from 11:30pm to 2am. Make sure you show your student ID on every journey you make, this deal is so good we don’t want any of the locals taking advantage of it!
Run out of cash? Don’t worry, just hand your student ID to the driver, who will hand it in to Reception in the Students’ Union (Building 42) and you can collect it and pay for your trip next time you’re on campus.
Here’s the full timetable of the Safety Bus and the Portswood Safety Bus so you know when it’s going to be around to save the day:
Travelling home from Campus (£1.50 from next to the Redbrick [if you live within a 3 mile radius])
- Monday to Wednesday: 8pm to 12:30am
- Thursday: 8pm to 2am
- Friday and Saturday: 8pm to 12:30am
- Sunday: 8pm to 11:30pm
Travelling home from Portswood (£2 from outside Sobar)

EXTRA! EXTRA! During the exam and revision period (5 January to 24 January) the Safety Bus will be operating from 12am to 7am to ferry all those pulling all nighters at the Library home for just £1.50. So hop on at any time between 12 and 7am to dash home, have a shower and a quick breakfast and still make it to your 9am lecture!
We hope you’ll take advantage of this excellent, reliable service to get you home safely!
