It’s almost upon us again: Elections season 2015 kicks off on Monday 12th January at midday, when the nominations will open online.

To kick off the nomination period, your Vice President Democracy and Creative Industries, Megan Downing will be taking over our Twitter from the moment they’re open for a live Q&A session, answering any queries from hopeful nominees as well as from anyone who wants to know more about the elections season ahead. You can nominate yourself and find out more at susu.org/stand.

You can follow the Q&A on our Twitter @YourSUSU, and get your questions in to Megan with the hashtag #AJobLikeNoOther.

The campus elections help you choose the best candidates to lead your Students’ Union for the following year. Juggling campaigning alongside degree work, clubs and societies, a job and well, just life can be pretty grueling for candidates, but it’s worth every second. This year we’ve got a new approach to supporting candidates as they go through the process…

– We’ll be staggering campaigning methods so you don’t get exhausted! Managing campaigning on social media as well as physical (that means posters and shouting about your campaign on campus) requires a load of legwork – we’ll be allowing each method to begin in stages so it doesn’t hit you all at once.

– Welfare and support will be provided for all candidates. It’s all too easy to get so caught up in the campaign that you forget to have a decent meal and a good night’s sleep (we’re pretty sure no-one ever won an election fuelled by Red Bull alone) – we’ll be providing someone to talk to about any worries you have during the campaign period.

– Not sure you’ve got enough experience? We’re running a programme of bespoke Your Skills sessions specifically for candidates, where you can brush up on your teamwork, public speaking and time management as well as a whole load of other skills. You can sign up for these session on the Your Skills page here.

If you’re unsure about running, don’t rush into it. You’ve got until Thursday 12th February to nominate yourself, and between now and then you can email Megan at vpdci@susu.org for advice on the nomination process or to find out more about what being a Sabbatical Officer or Student Leader is like.

Good luck to all nominees – we really can’t wait for it all to begin!
