The PURRfect Part-Time Job

If you’re looking to get your paws on some extra cash around your studies, we’ve got a job opportunity we think you might like. We’re looking for a SUSU Pet Care Assistant to work on a part-time basis, looking after Susu the Cat. We’ll be looking to develop a team in the future as we get more pets, but for now there’s just the one job on offer for one lucky student to become a professional feline friend to our beloved mascot.

The job description is as follows:

SUSU Pet Care Assistant

SUSU’s mission: unlocking the potential and enriching the life of every student. Your role in this mission is described below.

Main Purpose of role:

  • To prioritise the wellbeing of Susu the Cat
  • To manage a budget and cover the costs of her needs, liaising with suppliers
  • To implement and maintain a care rota for Susu
  • To undertake research in obtaining more pets for the Union

Responsible to:                      Beckie Thomas (VP Welfare)

Responsible for:                    None                                              

Main Duties of the Post

  • To create a rota that takes into account all of Susu’s needs
  • To manage a budget, covering all the costs of her dietary, hygiene, medical and recreational needs
  • To liaise with suppliers and oversee the purchase of all supplies needed
  • To research into creating a comfortable space for her within Building 42
  • To implement a care plan for Susu during loud/busy times in the Union
  • To undertake research in obtaining more pets for the Union
  • To spend time on a casual basis with Susu, making sure she is given attention and mental and physical stimulation

Contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Union by

  1. Attending all meetings and training events as required
  2. Ensuring that statutory and legal obligations are met
  3. Supporting the implementation of the Union plan, promoting our aims and values through the goals of the departmental plan
  4. Promoting SUSU’s various policies within your work, in particular Health & Safety, Equality & Diversity and Ethical & Environmental
  5. Contributing to the positive image of The University of Southampton Students’ Union with students, University and the local community
  6. Working with the team to ensure a full service is provided at all times, providing cover as necessary
  7. Ensuring personal knowledge and skills are updated to ensure effectiveness in meeting work objectives. bly prescribed by the Union, appropriate to the grade and responsibilities of this post
