Voter registration countdown!
With less than a week left for people to get registered to vote ahead of the General Election, we are urging you to make sure your voice is heard on 7 May and register at www.gov.uk/registertovote. 20 April will be people’s last chance to get registered so that they can vote in the General Election.
The last few months have seen SUSU launch an £18000 campaign, “Your Vote, Your Voice”, to get students registered to and actually voting, ensuring the student voice is loud and clear in Southampton when it comes to choosing who will run our country in the General Election.
Ellie Cawthera, VP Student Engagement said:
“This year is a General Election year and on the 7th May, our vote becomes our voice on who runs the country. For many of us, this will be the first General Election we vote in and our voices deserve to be heard. SUSU have been working hard to ensure students can make a fully informed vote. Politicians only write their policies for people who vote. In 2010 the media called students the silent and apathetic generation because we didn’t vote. I want to change this.”
As part of the campaign SUSU has been working in partnership with Solent University Students’ Union to organise a range of debates and events to ensure students are fully informed when it comes to May 7.
These include:
21st April – BBC Radio Solent election debate – SUSU Concourse – 12.00- 13.00- Debate hosted by Julian Clegg with a panel of candidates from all the local parties.
