The Elephant In The Room
It’s time to talk about the elephant in the room. Some people feel uncomfortable or embarrassed talking about mental health illness, others labour under the notion that it’s a rare and obvious illness to have – we need to address that.
Statistically, 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem in any given year. That could be anxiety, depression, stress, all the way up to schizophrenia – any number of illnesses that fall under the umbrella. It’s time to talk about it, so that you can recognise the symptoms in yourself and your friends and get help to nip problems in the bud.
As part of SUSU’s ongoing campaign to bring awareness to mental health problems, there is a short survey you can fill out. It’ll help us try to work out how you discuss mental health, how easy you find it to access mental health care and exercise facilities, and the service provision in Southampton as a whole.
