Union at Gay Pride Portsmouth

On Saturday 20th June gay pride hit Portsmouth and members of staff from the union went to the parade and ensured that the union was well represented.

Gay Pride is a celebration of LGBT+ rights and it was the first pride to be held in Portsmouth in nine years. The event was a huge success with hundreds of people attending the event to show their support for the LGBT+ community. The event also included local dignitaries to show their support.
At the parade we gave out 600 rainbow flags bearing the SUSU logo on and we got a lot of news coverage, with thousands of pictures taken both by official photographers and other members of the public waving our flags. Some of the photos with our flags in were used on the official Portsmouth Council website as well as in tweets sent by well known LGBT+ campaigner Peter Tatchell. The flags were designed by Sam Bailey, who has recently taken his post as Vice President Welfare and were donated to the event by the E&D Committee and the LGBT+ Society.
