This year we have lots of events planned to commemorate Black History Month, .

Black History Month is a time to recognise and celebrate the important contributions that people of African, Arab, Asian and Caribbean heritage make to humanity – raising awareness of different cultures and communities, and our events aim to highlight these contributions.

On the 25th October there will be a free screening of the film ’42’ in Union Films. The film is about Jackie Robinson, the first African-American player in the baseball Major League, and the screening will begin at 2:15pm. Finally on the 28th October there will be a celebration of all things Caribbean with a Caribbean Culture Night taking place at The Bridge, starting at 8pm.

The African and Caribbean Society also have lots of events planned, so check out their website for all the events they have planned. They have also collaborated with the Wessex Scene and The Edge magazines to create a special Black History Month issue that you will be able to pick up across campus this week.

If you are interested in any of our events then join our Facebook event for all the information that you will need, including how to go about attending any national events too.
