While many students will be leaving university soon to spend Christmas at home, there are those of you out there who will be remaining in halls throughout the festive period. But rest assured – your Halls Committees have plenty of activities planned to ensure you won’t be lonely this Christmas. Don’t forget to keep an eye out on your Halls’ Facebook pages for updates in the run up to Christmas!

FIFA Tournament Grand Halls Final

Glen Eyre, Wessex Lane, Mayflower, Erasmus Park, City Gateway, Highfield, Bencraft and Archers Road are all invited to take part in the FIFA Tournament Grand Halls Final, which will be taking place on 9th December. Come and get involved for your chance to win prizes and trophies!

Tea, Cake and Film nights at Glen Eyre

  • The Grinch & Elf – 13th December
  • Polar Express & Home Alone – 20th December

Star Wars Marathons at Mayflower

  • Two films per night in the run up to the release of the latest Star Wars film – 13th-15th December

Christmas & New Year at Glen Eyre, Wessex Lane, Archers Road, Erasmus Park & Mayflower

Christmas Day

  • Your halls will be hosting a Christmas tea and cake party with traditional Christmas food/buffet, including old favourites such as mince pies and yule log, and plenty of other refreshments.
  • There will be a range of films to watch (both festive and non-festive) as well as a mixture of board games and PlayStation 4’s, so you can keep Christmas competitive!

Time: 8pm (9pm at Wessex Lane)

Plus: Festive Films

The following films will also be shown on Christmas day, so you don’t miss out on that crucial festive viewing time:

  • The Santa Clause – Archers Road
  • The Polar Express – Erasmus Park

BOXING DAY

Enjoy a ‘chill out’ film night complete with popcorn and snacks:

  • Inside Out – St Margaret’s Common Room, Archers Road
  • Home Alone 1 & 2 – the Common Room, Erasmus Park
  • Home Alone – the SCR, Wessex Lane
  • Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation – the PDR Room, Glen Eyre
  • The Man from Uncle – the Common Room, Mayflower

TIME: 8PM (9PM at WESSEX)

City Gateway will also be holding an international themed night with students being asked to bring along their own traditional dishes.

NEW YEAR’S EVE

See in the new year and enjoy a host of activities including:

  • A New Year’s Eve tea and cake party.
  • Watch the countdown on TV and ring in the New Year with Residences Support.
  • Again, board games and PlayStations will be available to use.
  • The Ressup Quiz will be taking place at the St Margaret’s Common Room, Archers Road.

NEW YEAR’S DAY

  • Wessex Lane, City Gateway, Mayflower and Glen Eyre will be holding the Big RESSUP Quiz of the Year, a topical quiz based on TV’s ‘Big Fat Quiz of the Year’ featuring questions on news, popular culture and sport. Take part and see how much you can remember from the past year!

Please note, for Bencraft and Highfield Halls, the sites will not be manned over Christmas but students will be invited to attend events at the site of their choice.
