Christmas events from your student groups, societies and community
As we near Christmas, a huge culture and religious festival in the UK and across the world, we take a look at some of the events taking place around Southampton to celebrate this, both religious events but also events for non-religious people.
Coming up there is the Heart of Christmas celebration, organised by African Caribbean Christian Fellowship Group, taking place at Cantell School on Saturday 5th December. The event will show worship of God through drama, dance and music, and if you are interested then email the committee for information about tickets: accf@soton.ac.uk.
There is also the ever popular ‘Carols By Candlelight’ event organised and run by the Christian Union. Taking place in Highfield Church, there are four services taking place in the afternoon and evening of Sunday 6th December. With a choir and orchestra, it will be a magical Christmas event, with mulled wine and mince pies available after each service.
The city centre is playing host to the annual Christmas Festival, with a tradition German market, Christmas tunes and it’s very own flying Santa! This is in the pedestrian precinct of Above Bar Street, and is entirely free, with over 40 different market stalls and lots of food, including bratwurst and waffles.
If you want to go a little further, then the beautiful Winchester Christmas Market is always a huge hit. A traditional Christmas market is combined with an ice rink, among the back drop of the beautiful cathedral, this is guaranteed to get you into the Christmas spirit. The page can be found here.
Have fun celebrating in whatever way you do!
