WSA: What you’ve asked for and what you’ve got!

In General

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Your Campus President, Ryan, has been busy working away to improve the WSA student experience. Here is what he has been getting up to:

Shuttle Bus

You asked us to improve the connections between WSA and Highfield, so we made a FREE shuttle bus available for you to travel between campuses during term-time. All you need to do is present your Student ID as you board. You can find the timetable here.

We’ve had some great feedback from students so far, but we have gone one step further and introduced a new process to allow you to book the shuttle bus during the weekends! We can provide the bus and ensure that you are registered as an approved driver and then you can make your booking online. The bus is £80 to book for 1 day and £120 for 2 days. Keep your eyes peeled for more information.

Winchester Student Committee

You wanted to have a better representation structure in Winchester, so we have created the Winchester Student Committee. Led by your Campus President, Ryan, the Committee will also include:

  • Academic Officer
  • Welfare Officer
  • Social Events Officer
  • International Officer
  • Erasmus Park President (already elected during the Halls Committee elections)

If you are interested in running for one of these positions, nominations are open now and close on Thursday 11th February at 12pm. You can nominate yourself here.

Events and Activities

You asked us to provide you with more events and activities based in Winchester, so here are a few things we have lined up:

  • Chinese New Year – Monday 8th February

We want to celebrate the Chinese New Year with you, so come and join us in the WSA Cafe between 3-5pm! We will have calligraphy, traditional Chinese dancing and lots of Chinese speciality foods. Find out more here.

  • Quiz & Curry ongoing – next one Tuesday 9th February

We have been holding a fortnightly Quiz and Curry in the WSA Cafe, giving the losing team the opportunity to pick the theme for the following wooden spoon round during each event. Initially, we held the event on Thursdays, but after feedback from you to say Tuesdays were more convenient, we changed the day. The next Quiz and Curry is on Tuesday 9th February. Find out more here.

  • Saints & Sinners Ball – Friday 26th February

We have been working with your Campus President, Ryan, to organise a seasonal Saints and Sinners Ball for all from 8pm at Winchester Guildhall. Find out more here and get your tickets from our Box Office here.

  • Golden Ticket – Feb/March

Join in with an exciting WSA treasure hunt! All you have to do is look for the golden tickets around campus for your chance to win some great prizes including free lunch voucher in the WSA Cafe, free Mexicali lunch voucher and much more. Keep your eye out for more details coming soon.

  • What’s your Shelfie – Feb/March

Do you find yourself doing more selfies than Kylie Jenner? Well, we want you to send us your selfies, but with a twist! Send us your ‘shelfies’ (see what we did there?!), or photos of the shelves in your house filled with all your favourite things to our Instagram page @sususnaps with the hashtag #WSAShelfies. Regrams for the very best!

  • End of Term Summer BBQ – June

Back due to popular demand! We will be holding an end of term summer BBQ in June time. More details coming soon!

  • WSA Summer Ball June

We want you to celebrate the end of the year with a bang, so we will be holding a Summer Ball in June. We will keep you posted as we organise it.

WSA Cafe University Catering Loyalty Card

Did you know that the University of Southampton owns the WSA Cafe and catering service? But as your Students’ Union, we can work to lobby the University to make the changes you want to see. So we have been working in partnership with them to introduce a new loyalty scheme for use at the WSA Cafe. More details coming soon!

WSA branded hoodies for sale

You asked us for WSA branded hoodies, so that is exactly what we have done. We will be selling WSA and UoS branded hoodies at the Union desk in the WSA Café. £20 each (cash only) at the The Union desk in the WSA Cafe. Coming soon!

Mandala/Colouring Book Template Requests

You may remember us asking you to send in your mandala template designs for us to create a WSA colouring book. We have had some great designs so far, so keep them coming! Don’t forget to include your name, year of study, course and a contact number so we can give you full credit for your designs. You can submit designs at The Union desk in the WSA Cafe or by PDF to comms@susu.org.

New Course Reps

To help represent you on your course, we have elected 34 Course Reps. These are students who you can approach if you have an issue on your course. They will then liaise with the University to help improve your course! Find out who they are here.

We hope you have enjoyed our updates and we are sure that you have plenty of questions! Please don’t hesitate to get in touch via The Union – Winchester Facebook page and via Twitter @yoursusu. We will be working with the new WSA Student Committee to do much, much more, so watch this space………..
