What’s On at Union Films

In General

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Union Films, your student run cinema based in the heart of the Union, always has lots on offer for students, and the week ahead is no different.

Today kicks off with one of the cinema’s most popular events in the form of a movie marathon! The marathon will be based around Studio Ghibli, the Japanese based animation studio. The marathon will include five classic films, including Spirited Away and The Wind Rises, all for just £10, or £8 if you are a pass holder. It’s not too late to get your tickets – just head to our Box Office before the marathon begins at 12pm.

If sitting through a marathon of films does not suit you, Union Films have lots of individual screenings coming up. On Sunday at 5pm they will be showing Joy, a film starring Jennifer Lawrence based on entrepreneur Joy Mangano, the single mum who created a business empire from inventing items such as the Miracle Mop. The film features top quality acting from Jennifer Lawrence, who received an Oscar nomination for her portrayal. Alternatively, at 8pm they will be showing the latest Quentin Tarantino film, The Hateful Eight. Featuring classic Tarantino tropes, the well received film promises to be another popular showing.

Coming up next week, on Tuesday Union Films are showing the Rocky spin-off film, Creed. Featuring Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone reprising his role as Rocky Balboa, it was a great critical success when first released. Both leading actors received numerous award nominations, with Stallone receiving his first Oscar nomination for the role since his original turn in the first Rocky film. Make sure you get down to Union Films to watch this at 7pm on Tuesday.

With so much in store, just take your pick – as always, you can get your tickets for any of Union Films’ screenings at our Box Office.

And don’t forget, Union Films are always on the look out for more volunteers. Every volunteer gets to watch the film they are helping to run, whilst it provides a great way of making new friends and something extra on your CV. To find out more about how to join, check out the Union Films website. Now you know what’s on, the biggest decision now is which film to watch!
