Winchester Town Centre is beaming with Christmas Cheer!

If you’re staying in Winchester this Christmas there’s plenty of festive fun to be had. Whether you’re interested in hand made Christmas craft fairs or love to sample the Christmas delights, there’s something for everyone here this holiday. Grab a mince pie and a cup of tea, the following festivities are guaranteed to make your tinsel tingle.
Winchester Christmas Market
The Winchester Christmas market is undoubtedly the main attraction. Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, it’s now recognised as one of the best Christmas markets in Europe. From hand made cashmere jumpers to intricate Christmas decorations there’s something for everyone and every budget.
If you need to buy any unique last minute gifts or would just love to soak up the festive atmosphere while sipping on mulled wine this is the day out for you, and completely free to attend! Set in the grounds of the Cathedral, this picturesque market will get you into the festive spirit in no time.
The market is only open until tomorrow (Tuesday 20 December 10:00- 18:00), so if you haven’t been you’ve not go long left!

Ice Rink
Nestled in the Christmas market is the ice rink celebrating its 10th anniversary, it has seen the addition of a clear roof so skaters can now enjoy whatever the weather, while looking across to the cathedral.
The ice rink is open until Monday 02 January 10:00-20:45, student tickets are priced at £8.95 and available to purchase via the website or at the rink on the day.

Woolly Hat Fair 2016
From the Hat Fair Company comes the Woolly Hat Fair 12 days of Christmas, 12 FREE events will be held in Winchester at various locations across the city. There are now only two events left and will be on Tuesday 20 and Thursday 22 December both at 17:00.

Christmas Lights
Is there a better way to get into the Christmas spirit than taking a stroll around Winchester and looking up at the lights? Head towards the High Street and take a look at the Christmas tree and sparkling lights above.
Theatre Royal Winchester
Panto season is upon us! (oh no it isn’t…) And this year the production is Cinderella, promised to be one of the best. The show includes real ponies, what more could you ask for?!
The theatre is located next to the Art Gallery just up the hill from WSA. Student tickets are available and bookable online. The shows are running until Monday 02 January.
Arts and Crafts Trail
Take a walk around Winchester and find art work from Antony Gormley at the cathedral and the famous Hampshire Hog near Westgate.

The Great Hall
Take a trip to The Great Hall located just at the top of the high-street, it dates back to the 13th century and is one of the “Finest surviving halls”. It houses the ‘Round Table’ and ‘The Long Gallery’ and is FREE to enter! (open daily 10:00-17:00)

If none of the above take your fancy Winchester has just been named the best place to live in the UK and there’s plenty reason for that. The Cathedral is one of the largest in Europe which is well worth a visit, the unique mix of shops makes for a great day out, and you’re never short of places to eat which offer great student discount deals. Not forgetting St Giles Hill, a short walk away from WSA with a lovely view over the city.
If you’re still stuck for ideas just take a walk around Winchester with your camera and sketch book! There’s always something different and new to explore, you won’t be short of inspiration this Christmas season in Winchester.
