In General

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Our Marketing and Communications crew member, Selina, has been busy getting festive in Southampton and has pulled together these ideas for the top things to do this holiday, so if you’re in Southampton over the Christmas break, you can be sure to have a great time. Thanks Selina for the photos as well!

Southampton Christmas Festival

If you fancy a traditional German feast head towards the high street where the German market is offering Bratwursts, schnitzels and other specialities. Grab a drink and soak up the festive atmosphere! There’s also hand made decorations, soaps and vintage jewellery.

It’s free to enjoy the festival and open daily 10:00 to 20:00, the last day of the festival is Friday the 23 December.

British Art Show 8

Southampton is the last stop for the show, and it hosts over 40 Artists over 2 locations, the John Hansard Gallery, which is right on Highfield campus and Southampton Art Gallery which is next to the Guild Hall. The show is an eclectic mix representing “The changing role and status of the physical object in an increasingly digital age”. The exhibition will open your eyes to new ways of thinking while highlighting the modern age, the exhibition is running until the 15th of January and is free entry.

The gallery is open daily from 10:00-17:00 but will be closed from Christmas Eve to New Year’s Day.

Mayflower Theatre

Fancy seeing Cat Slater and Alfie Moon in a completely different role? Well they’re at the mayflower performing pantomime Robin Hood (oh no they’re not) Oh yes they are! Have some cheesy fun and book a few seats with your friends. Student tickets are available and the pantomime is running until the 08 January.

Sea City Museum

Take a trip to Sea City Museum and discover the past of Southampton. Exhibitions show the story of the Titanic and offers interactive ways to learn about the voyage. As well as ‘The Gateway to the World’, which enables visitors to find out what life was like for people in Southampton from Roman to the Victorian Era.

Find out more on their website here.

If none of the above take your fancy there’s loads of other ways you could spend your christmas break. Walk the historic walls and find out about Southampton’s past. Start at Bargate and make your way down towards the waterfront, whilst you’re there walk to the docks and get some sea air in your lungs.

If you’re feeling peckish and tired of the same old thing take a trip to the new West Quay Watermark complex where some brand new restaurants have just opened. Or just plonk yourself down in a coffee shop and have some cake while you revise.

Enjoy your Christmas break!
