Surge Radio are embarking on their annual 48 hour broadcasting marathon on Thursday to raise money for Comic Relief.

The marathon, which will be broadcast live outside the Union building on the Redbrick, is due to start at midnight on Thursday, ending 48 hours later at 00:00 on Saturday 25 March.

The 40 strong team of volunteers aim to raise £480 for Comic Relief in association with RAG (Raise and Give) society  through a series of competitions, on-air challenges, and games.

The marathon will be broadcast live on the Surge website, but can also be followed across Surge’s social media platforms using the hashtag #Surge48.

Surge Programme Controller, Polly Marquis, comments, “We’ve got such a great, hardworking team together for our 48-hour marathon – I’m so excited to see how much money we can raise after all the effort we’ve all put in!”

In previous years, the marathon has including appearances from Full-Time Officers who have completed challenges to encourage fundraising. In 2015, former Union President, Ben Franklin, sung Nicki Minaj’s ‘Anaconda’ live on air following a successful elections campaign featuring a parody of the track.

Our Vice-President Democracy and Creative Industries, Cameron Meldrum, comments, “I’m very excited to see Surge are back at it again for their 48 Hour Marathon! It’s great that they are doing this for such a good cause, and I can’t wait to hear the amazing content they come up with”.
