Hot Water: an update!

In News

Reading Time: < 1 minute

Hello everyone, Samuel Dedman here – VP Education for the 2017/18 year. My role encompasses everything to do with educational experience at the University, including a whole bunch of work on study spaces and facilities.

Quite a few of us have been asking about free hot water access – this is something which the Students’ Union’s Academic Reps have campaigned on for many years now, and I’m pleased to bring a series of updates on the issue.

You might not be aware but the Students’ Union outlets have never charged for hot water and provide this free of charge to anyone who asks.

The University stance was previously a little different, but following our Academic Reps’ work, from 01 December 2017 free boiling water will be available across all University catering outlets, providing that people bring their own cups/flasks to be filled. This is a fantastic announcement and comes after feedback from the October Student Forum. It’s very positive to see that the University is taking on student feedback in areas such as this.

Don’t forget that Sam Higman (VP Welfare) announced some other changes to hot drinks offering recently, so check out her blog for more information.

As always, get in touch with our Academic Representatives if you have any further questions, or drop me an email at vpeducation@susu.org.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Samuel Dedman, VP Education
