WSA Free Fruit Fridays
Hi everyone, it’s Venny, WSA Campus President for 2017/2018.
It was fantastic to meet so many of you at our first Free Fruit Fridays last week. For those of you who haven’t heard about it, Free Fruit Fridays is a brand new initiative led by the WSA Committee, and it’s exactly what it sounds like – you’ll will receive free fruit from the Students’ Union and the Student Committee, no strings attached. This project will run fortnightly on Fridays, in the WSA Cafe from approximately 10:00 until 14:00, although it may finish sooner depending on when we run out of fruit.
There are two main reasons why we thought Free Fruit Fridays would be a great idea for WSA. First, we want to promote healthy eating and maintaining a balanced diet throughout your time at University. We hope that if you’re provided with free fruit as a snack you may be willing to skip on a less healthy alternative – I know I’m guilty of turning to anything chocolate way too often! Not only that, but giving you free fruit is our way of initiating interaction and getting to know you better, and a chance for us to listen to any concerns you may have. The WSA Committee is made up of student volunteers, and we want to make ourselves even more visible to you, so we feel Free Fruit Fridays is a great way to do this.
Luckily, based on the reactions from last Friday, I think we’re getting that message across. Some of the comments included:
– That’s wonderful, thank you.
– Thank you, I appreciate it.
– I would love a free apple!
– Thank you student committee!
– So happy! Thank you.
Thank you for all the wonderful responses, and I hope this post has given you some insight into why Free Fruit Fridays was started. If you missed it last Friday, come along to the next one on 15 December – we’re expanding our range to both bananas and apples this time around!
See you there!
