Creative Industries Careers Sessions

This month we are running four careers workshops to help launch you into your dream creative career! These sessions are brought to you by the Creative Industries Zone and are perfect for anyone hoping to kick-start a career in media, advertising, marketing, journalism/editing, events promotion or fundraising. We are also running a LinkedIn Lab to help you tailor your profile to the career you’re working towards. All sessions are free but some do require sign-up via Eventbrite – check out the full details below:

CI Careers Session: Media and Advertising Workshop

Wednesday 07 March, 14:30 – 15:30, Building 58, Room 1041 Murray Building

Curious about the media and advertising industry? Come along to this workshop with Richard Willis, founder of Talent Works to find out how to get in to the industry, who you should be networking with, which roles to aim for and more.

It doesn’t stop there, Final Year students can also book a one-to-one with Richard throughout the whole day. You can do this here (select Southampton option).

Talent Works aim to advance young talent in media, so this is the perfect opportunity to discuss your desired career path, consider your options and gain some help and guidance from Richard.

CI Careers Session: What It Takes To Be An Editor

Want to know what it takes to be an Editor of a magazine in today’s evolving multi-media world? Join us to discover more, with Carl Loben, Editor-in-Chief of DJ Mag.

With many years of experience as a music journalist, Carl will discuss how the ‘Editor’ role has become more of a multi-media job over the last decade. He will discuss choosing quality content that you know will engage with your audience, importance of relationships with other staff members and section editors and how this is relevant to you as students and future careers.

CI Careers Session: Marketing Events & Performances

Need tips and advice on how to promote your events and performances? Join us at University of Southampton Students’ Union where we will be joined by the Marketing Team from Nuffield Southampton Theatres advising on best practices, useful marketing tips and understanding your audience.

This is a great chance to get a head start in marketing your upcoming events, whether it be a society event, personal project, public event, performance or anything else! We hope to see you there.

CI Careers Session: 5 Ways to Fundraise

Friday 16 March, 14:00 – 16:00, Meeting Room 2

Join us for a great session on fundraising for creative projects with Jay Mendivil, Head of Operations at Turner Sims in Southampton.

If you run events or projects regularly of any form, this is the event for you! From attracting business sponsorship, producing funding applications and gaining income from grant givers/trusts and foundations to broadening your project to make it bigger and better.

Jay will make sure you walk away with something both useful and tangible, a hands on session where participants can come up with sponsorship ideas and ways to generate additional income.
