The IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Summit 2018 is coming to Southampton! This is the first time the summit will be held in the UK, and will take place from Monday 13 – Wednesday 15 August 2018. The summit aims to inspire and empower women, in particular those who want to work in technology, science and engineering, and provide opportunities to network and collaborate.

To commemorate the life of our much loved cat, Susu, we have installed a plaque in Bar 2. Susu enjoyed exploring the Union building among the crowds of students, but more often than not, she could be found snoozing down in Bar 2. A quote from Charles Dickens perfectly captures her memory.

Glen Eyre held The Big Summer Farewell on Friday afternoon, and what an afternoon it turned out to be! With free ice-cream and burgers, inflatables, competitive games, live music and a photo booth, there was plenty to make our way around. Best of all, the sun decided to join the party, encouraging everyone to embrace the start of summer. Chris Conti and Simeon Superville, from our very own Southampton Sharks (SUBC), ran a fantastic basketball activity session for five members of The GROW Project last Friday. The GROW Project is an innovative charity committed to bringing day services to adults with physical and learning disabilities in Southampton and Eastleigh. Once we heard that several of their members were interested in basketball, the Sharks jumped at the opportunity to help!

We are very pleased to announce that our recycled t-shirts and sports equipment have successfully arrived in Liberia, through the fantastic Farm4life charity! They are being used in Farm4Life’s cricket programme, which aims to bring sport to as many people as possible, regardless of their background or economic situation.
Farm4life run a number of products, and are predominantly based in Ghana. Through their Adoley Centre, Education4life, Sportz4all and Container projects, this international charity aims to empower individuals and communities, provide relief from financial, social and economic disadvantage, and improve education and opportunities.
