University of Southampton awarded Silver by TEF Panel
The University of Southampton has been awarded the Silver Teaching Excellence & Student Outcomes Framework (TEF) Panel Award. This is a fantastic achievement which recognises the University’s “priority and focus on delivering a transformative experience that enables and encourages students to excel during their time at the University and to continue their success as graduates throughout their lives.”
The Union would like to take this opportunity to thank our Academic Reps, as their hard work listening to ideas and feedback from students, and ensuring positive student-led changes are made at the University, has played an important part in the University receiving the Silver Award. The University’s TEF submission highlighted how “evidence of our students’ engagement with their studies can be seen in the number of them who choose to serve as academic representatives”.
There was also recognition of our annual Academic Awards: “Each year the Students’ Union also celebrates good teaching, academic support and academic representation through the student-led ‘Academic Awards’”, as well as a full statement from Sam Dedman, our VP Education, on the overall work the Union does to unlock the potential and enrich the life of every student.
Flora Noble, Union President, says: “It’s so fantastic to see that we have been awarded TEF Silver. Whilst we recognise that there is still so much more improvement to come, it’s testament to the hard work being done by academics, professional services staff, and in particular students, who have been so constructive in providing feedback to improve teaching at the University. Your Academic Reps are always there to listen to your feedback, so keep passing it on – TEF Silver is just the beginning!”
Sir Christopher Snowden, Vice-Chancellor of the University, says, “We are very pleased to receive the Silver TEF award, recognising the work of our dedicated staff who are committed to delivering an excellent educational experience in a stimulating research-informed environment, together with the strong engagement of our student community … we are also very grateful to the many staff and students throughout the institution who directly contributed to our TEF submission and to our Students’ Union whose contributions were vital to our success.”
