IEEE Women in Engineering ILS 2018 is coming to Southampton
The IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Summit 2018 is coming to Southampton! This is the first time the summit will be held in the UK, and will take place from Monday 13 – Wednesday 15 August 2018. The summit aims to inspire and empower women, in particular those who want to work in technology, science and engineering, and provide opportunities to network and collaborate.
This fantastic event has been organised by students, and the Students’ Union are an organisational sponsor of the summit. Sam Dedman, our VP Education, says:
“The Students’ Union is incredibly proud to be supporting the IEEE Women in Engineering International Leadership Summit taking place in Southampton. The IEEE Women in Engineering group do fantastic work in inspiring women around the world to pursue a career in engineering and science, working as a community to innovate and improve life for all of us. This is the perfect example of an event for students being run and organised by students – something that we as a Students’ Union take incredibly seriously and were all too happy to support and sponsor in any way that we could. We would like to wish all of the delegates attending the very best, and hope they enjoy their time at our University and in the fantastic city of Southampton!”
Aneesha Sethi, Chair of IEEE WIE ILS Southampton 2018 and PhD researcher in Cyber-Security Visualisation, says: “I would like to invite all of you to register for our summit to celebrate Women and Diversity. We feel honoured to have been given the opportunity to host IEEE’s Women-in-Engineering International Leadership Summit in Southampton. In this summit we hear from senior female leaders about their approaches to engage with the wider community and how they achieved their goals by overcoming challenges. My committee and I have received a tremendous amount of support from within the University, especially from Prof. Paul Lewin who has supported our initiative every step of the way. I also want specifically thank the Students’ Union for their support as an organisational sponsor. I cannot wait to see you all in August and be part of the experience we have designed for you.”
Monday 13 August – The summit begins with a welcome talk, careers fair and dinner at the Southampton Harbour Hotel. The Global Chair of IEEE WIE will be attending.
Tuesday 14 August – On Tuesday the main talks and workshops will take place, with inspiring stories from students, lecturers and industry professionals. In the evening, attendees will be dining at our very own restaurant, The Bridge, for a summer BBQ. A preliminary programme of talks and workshops can be found here: IEEE WIE ILS Preliminary Programme
