New Year, New Printing Costs

In News

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Hello everyone! Samuel Dedman here, your returning VP Education for 2018/19. I wrote a blog post a few months ago about the new managed print service coming to the University of Southampton, and left it with a promise of a later update about pricing. I’m pleased to say that this is that update, and it is all good news!

I firmly believe that the cost of student printing at Southampton has been too high in previous years, putting increased pressure on the finances of many of our students. This is particularly true of our students at Winchester School of Art, and it was following a meeting with Venny (WSA Campus President) that we began campaigning in earnest to lower the cost of printing across the board.

I’m thrilled to say that we have been successful, and the following pricing model is due to be rolled out for the 2018/19 academic year. While the saving may only be a couple of pence in places, it all adds up over the course of a degree and should help to lift some of the financial burdens which our students find themselves under. We’ll also continue to monitor the University’s printing offer to make sure that students are not only getting value-for-money, but are also using a service which is sustainable and fit-for-purpose:

Thank you to iSolutions, Apogee and most importantly our SUSU volunteers and Student Leaders for their hard work and persistence throughout this process. We would not have reached this point without your input!

Keep an eye out for the new printers around our campuses very soon, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions!
