Outcomes from the Making Change Summit + AGM
On Thursday 29 November 2018 we held our first Making Change Summit of the academic year, and our Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Our AGM is a legally required meeting to approve the accounts for the Students’ Union, appoint the auditors and consider other governance matters. It requires 250 students to have registered a proxy vote online or be present in-person in order to be a valid meeting. This year we had 270 voters, although not all of these voted for every point on the agenda.
Specific matters that were approved at the AGM include the decision that there will be 5 Sabbatical Officers from 2019-20 (President, Vice President Democracy & Education, Vice President Activities, Vice President Sports and Vice President Welfare and Community). You can find more details about these roles here.
In addition to this, students also decided that in future the Trustee Board will have 4 sabbatical trustees, 4 student trustees and 4 external trustees. It will remain chaired by the Union President.
Finally, voters also approved the publishing of anonymous “You Make Change” requests but with new guidelines clarifying that Sabbatical Officers could choose not to publish abusive and inappropriate submissions.
The full outcome of the AGM votes is available online here.
