Mind Society’s annual walk with the Hill Walking Club has so far raised an incredible £308 for charity.

The annual walk sees Mind Society and the Hillwalking Club come together with volunteers to walk all the way to Winchester from Southampton dressed in their best Christmas attire. This year proceeds from the walk will be going to both Solent Mind, the Southampton branch of the mental health charity Mind and No Limits, a charity offering free and confidential information, advice, counselling, support and advocacy for young people.

Mind Society President, Kiana, says “the Santa walk to Winchester has been a yearly event for the past 3 years which joins the Mind society and the Hillwalking Club together on a 12km walk from Highfield campus to Winchester cathedral. The aims are to join together a group of people to make friends, promote wellbeing, and to raise money.”

The cold winter weather didn’t put them off, “the walk started off in the rain, which slowly subsided” Says Kiana. “Although walking in the mud along the Itchen Navigation, we had a fantastic time.”

Over 40 people donned their best Christmas outfits for the walk, all in the name of a good cause. Hillwalking President, Serena says, “these are wonderful charities who offer support and services for people in and around Southampton struggling with their mental health. This is particularly important to us as poor mental health can affect anyone at any time, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, class or ethnicity. It was an honour to work with MindSoc again, and a privilege to promote walking as an excellent tool for wellbeing.”

The Santa Walk JustGiving page is still open and any donations are welcome.
