Stay Safe this Holiday Season

In News

Reading Time: 2 minutes

During the festive season you may find you are celebrating in the city, partying with friends, or maybe you are studying late into the evening. Whatever the reason, if you are staying out late make sure you have a plan for travelling around the city and getting home. We have some helpful info below to guide you…

Safety Bus
The Union’s Safety Bus is available every evening from 21:00 during term time, on the Redbrick outside Building 42, Highfield Campus. Our team will drop you off right at your door for just £1.50 if you live within 3 miles of campus, or £3 if you live further.
Out of cash? Don’t worry! You can use your Student ID as payment and then pay the next day (and get your ID back!) from main reception in the Students’ Union (Building 42).
Full timetable and info can be found here: Union Safety Bus

Unilink
Unilink provide regular bus services between campus and Halls up until 01:00, and a night bus service from the city centre between 01:00 – 03:00. Students benefit from discounted season tickets on Unilink services, which can also be used on Bluestar services.
Find your Unilink timetable here.

Radio Taxis
Radio Taxis have an app which you can use to request a taxi and pay by debit or credit card. Prefer to phone? Their number is 023 80 666 666.

Keep in touch and travel together
It’s always safer to travel in a group and stick to well-lit main roads where possible, even if it means having a longer journey home.
If you do need to travel alone, make sure to let your house mates know when you are planning on getting home (or a rough estimate, anyway!) and keep in touch if your plans change.
Add your house mates and friends’ numbers to your phone – you might not need them now but you’ll be grateful if you run out of data and need to get in touch.

Low Battery?
The Union now has a free lockable charging station available in The Café, Level 3, Building 42. Ask at main reception (Building 42) for a key and you’re good to go! Find the Union’s Christmas opening hours here.
Hartley Library on Highfield Campus is now open until midnight and has charging points available in the quiet study areas. Find the Hartley Library opening hours here.

Hide your valuables
Make sure that valuable items are out of sight both at home and whilst you’re out and about.
