Valentine’s Day on a budget

In Features

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Wanna impress your date but running low on funds? Don’t worry, we’ve got you. We’ve put our heads together and come up with this list of handy ideas for Valentine’s on a budget. Now say it with us, ‘it’s the thought that counts.’

๐Ÿ’—A card

Buy one: It’s a must really and some even say this is the most important part. There are a lot of places to get a cheap card these days but just make sure you write a thoughtful message inside. Just a ‘love from’ isn’t going to cut it on Valentine’s Day.

Make one yourself: Maybe you don’t want a generic over-the-top Valentine’s Day card anyway. Making your own can be a real success. Nothing says ‘thoughtful’ like something handmade. It could be cute, it could be funny, it could look terrible – you decide.

Write a letter: You can always one-up those thoughtful card makers and skip right to the deep meaningful letter. Possibly too intense for a first date but we won’t judge.

๐Ÿ’—Wine and Dine

You may not have the budget for something really fancy but a simple home-made dinner can win you some real brownie points.

Alternatively, (shameless plug) The Bridge has some great value options and is a little fancier than a pint in The Stags’…unless that’s what you’re looking for?

๐Ÿ’—A Present

Set a limit: If you’d really like to buy each other a gift it’s a good idea to set a budget and both stick to it. It shouldn’t be all about the present. Try and get something small and meaningful or something that will remind them of an inside joke.

Photo in a frame: Your favourite photo of you both or a photo that sums up a nice memory of something you did together can make a great low-cost gift for Valentine’s Day. It’s also pretty minimal effort too. Win-win.

Scrapbook: A scrapbook can be a really thoughtful but cheap present. You could include photos, tickets to things you attended together and some nice words. You’ll definitely win some points for thoughtfulness.

๐Ÿ’—Date Ideas

A walk: Why not suggest a nice romantic stroll? It’s a good opportunity to put your phone away, enjoy the conversation and spend some time together but above all else, it’s absolutely free!

Karaoke: Lucky for you, this Valentine’s Day happens to  fall on another very special day. Why not dedicate a powerful love ballad to your one and only? Everyone loves some PDA right?

Cocktails: You could always combine the romantic stroll with some cocktails to reward yourselves for the effort. There’s plenty of 2-for-1 deals out there to make things a bit cheaper!

Cinema Date: treat your date to a trip to the cinema. Union Film’s tickets are only ยฃ3 after all.
