Following a significant increase in unintentional breaches of academic integrity during the Semester 1 exam period reported to the SUSU Advice Centre we decided it was time to take some action.

Media Ball 2019 – the Award Nominees

University of Southampton now offers extended parental leave for postgraduate students

The University Executive Board has approved an extension to the Maternity and Shared Parental Leave policy for doctoral researchers.

Following a meeting on 26th November 2018, the University Executive Board (UEB) approved an agreed Policy for Maternity Pay and Shared Parental Leave for doctoral researchers at the University of Southampton.

The University Policy covers maternity, paternity or shared parental leave. Students covered by the policy are entitled to 52 weeks of leave.

Meet the student behind Medicine Faculty’s new consent workshops

After feeling uninformed of the support available to her at university, fourth-year student, Sarah teamed up with SUSU, SCA Society and MedSoc to introduce new consent workshops to the Faculty of Medicine.

“Unfortunately, during my years of university, I have been raped. When this happened, I felt alone and uninformed of the support available at university. I felt that educational systems had failed to educate my colleague on what consent means and how it applies to our lives,” says Sarah.

SUSU supports LGBT+ Society against Brunei regime

The University of Southampton Students’ Union stands with SUSU LGBT+ Society in calling for University of Southampton to take action and sever ties with the anti-gay regime in Brunei. 

We support the motion submitted by Daniel Harris, LGBT+ Society member, to request the University take action on removing the title of the Brunei House at Glen Eyre Halls of Residence.

This building was funded by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and his government and currently displays a plaque to commemorate this. This motion is in light of the recent anti-gay legislation now signed into law by Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, where punishment is … Read the rest

SUSU joins UN Women UK University Champions Network

The Union is proud to be joining a network of students across the country who are raising awareness for UN Women, the only global organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.

The Red Box Project: A Round-Up

Hi everyone! It’s Charlotte, your Community and Volunteering Officer. After 24 days, three donation points and countless support from students, the community and SUSU, the Red Box Project has come to an end.

We finished distributing the donations yesterday, and as you can see from the car there’s no way we could’ve estimated just how successful this project would be! I am so unbelievably grateful for every single person who took the time to donate.
