At Southampton Pride 2019, staff and students from the University and SUSU went along to join in, march, and stand in solidarity with the LGBT+ community.

In the last 50 years, LGBT+ rights have come a long way. In the UK, sexual activity between men was decriminalized in 1967, and in 2010, same-sex marriage was legalized. Although we still have a long way to go, today we all celebrated where we are now, and who we are. Student activism has been a fundamental part of this.

The LGBT+ Society and the University Staff Pulse Network marched together in the parade through Southampton. The society have been instrumental within SUSU for creating an atmosphere of tolerance and pride, and they continuously put on events for our LGBT+ community here.

Many community partners were also there, including Chrysalis, the Trans Inclusivity Charity, and others who came out to show their solidarity with the community around them.

SUSU will be holding its second ever SUSU Pride in February 2020. If you would like to get involved, or need support, you can contact the LGBT+ society via –
