RAG’s Fight Night pulls no punches
RAG (Raise And Give), in collaboration with SUABC (Southampton University Amateur Boxing Club), pulled off one of their biggest ever events last month with a full bill of boxing, 16 bouts in total, at Oceana.
In the first event of its kind, the fighters, all from our very own university, underwent a rigorous training programme for over a month and a half to prepare for the night. They varied from complete beginners to more experienced boxers, both male and female. When it came to their bouts, each of the fighters where also praised for the high level of sportsmanship they showed and their acknowledgement that this was a charity fundraiser above all else.
The event SOLD OUT, with over 600 tickets sold to fill out the venue, and the crowd was in full spirit, chanting, singing and cheering on the combatants, with most people dressing up formally for the event.
Incredibly, RAG raised over £18,000 on the night, with all proceeds going to Movember, the charity focused on Men’s health.
RAG President Siobhan La Roche said this of their success:
“Thank you to everyone who came last night, I hope you all had an amazing time. It has been another record breaking year for Movember [fundraising] and a big part of that is down to ticket sales, so I can’t thank you all enough!”
