Introducing our new Chief Executive: Jim Gardner
We are pleased to announce we have recently appointed Jim Gardner as our new Chief Executive. Jim has been our Interim Chief Executive since February and he’s made a fantastic impact in his leadership so far.
Jim has twenty-five years’ leadership experience in the Third Sector and Education Sector. Before he joined SUSU, Jim was the Chief Executive of Kent Union, a large students’ union which is included in the Sunday Times 100 Best Not-for-Profit Organisations to Work For 2020 and the preceding 10 years.
Jim has also served as Interim Chief Executive of 3 students’ unions, with accountability and responsibility for up to 800 employees, 4,000 volunteers and £16m revenue budget.
Jim is a values-led leader with a passion for good governance, strong communication skills, high level financial management skills and significant experience of change management, strategy development and delivery. He is passionate about students’ unions and the work they have done over the last century to tackle the social issues of the day, and is keen to see SUSU fulfill its potential and work in a more collaborative and joined-up way with the University in order to further improve the student experience at Southampton.
