Congratulations to three members of Southampton University Taekwondo Club – Isra Ilyas, Jarrell Harewood and Timurs Formulevics – on qualifying for the European University Games!

Out of all the Universities competing in BUCS and the Student National Championships Series, Southampton came joint 1st for number of qualifying athletes and were the only club to have athletes qualify in sparring and poomsae (non-contact patterns of moves).

The European University Games will now take place 24 -27 July 2021 in Serbia due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Taekwondo Club Captain Isra Ilyas commented, “This time last year we had one athlete qualify, so go from 1 to 3 in the space of a year is a massive achievement! The club is immensely proud of these athletes for their hard work in training, and we are grateful for our coaches who are volunteers for helping us train for these events”.

The results are as follows:

Isra Ilyas – 1st Place Women’s <46kg Sparring

Jarrell Harewood – 1st Place Mens <63kg Sparring

Timurs Formulevics – 4th Place Mens Individual Kukkiwon Poomsae
