Reading Time: 3 minutes

Welcome 2020 is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to meet you all and welcome you to Southampton! We know you’ll have lots of questions about what you can look forward to in your first few weeks at uni, so here’s everything you need to know…

When is Welcome week?

Welcome 2020 runs for two weeks – Monday 28 September to Sunday 11 October.

What events will there be for Welcome 2020?

This Welcome we are hosting a mixture of online and in-person events. Our online events will include an escape room, quiz night, comedy night and a freebies fair. Our in-person events will include outdoor film screenings and silent discos at each University Halls, and our societies and sports clubs will be hosting meet & greets on campus.

We can’t wait to share our full events timetable with you soon!

How do I buy tickets?

All our Welcome events are FREE but booking is required. Tickets will be available via susu.org/welcome.

Where can I see a full event timetable?

Our full events timetable will be available to view at susu.org/welcome.

How can I tell which events are official Welcome 2020 ones?

All official events for Welcome 2020 will be shared on susu.org/welcome and our Welcome 2020 Facebook page. Official events will include our Welcome 2020 logo.

We are aware some companies are selling tickets to unofficial ‘Freshers 2020’ events. Remember, large scale indoor and outdoor events are not currently permitted by the UK Government, so please be cautious if you see events or tickets promising to deliver this type of event for students.

Will there be any events or venues I can enjoy on campus?

We will be running some in-person events for Welcome 2020, including society and sports club meet & greets, outdoor film screenings at Halls and silent discos at Halls. More details on these events will be announced soon!

Some of SUSU’s venues at Highfield campus will also be open to enjoy, with additional measures in place so you can visit us safely. Tables and spaces in The Stag’s and The Bridge will be available to book, and The Shop will be open at Highfield Campus. We’ll share more information on how to book our spaces soon.

Where can I find societies and sports clubs? How do I join them?

We have over 300 societies and sports clubs you can join – there’s something for everyone! A full list of them all can be found at susu.org/opportunities. Lots of societies and clubs are hosting their own events through Welcome, including meet & greets on campus so you can say hello in person.

Any of our clubs and societies will be happy to give you more information about how to join them, and you can also find a joining link on their individual SUSU webpages: susu.org/opportunities. Some are free to join, others will charge a fee to cover things like sports kit, training sessions and social events.

How can I meet other students starting in September?

A great place to find other students on your course and in your Halls is in our Welcome 2020 Facebook group: Official University of Southampton Welcome 2020/21 Group.

How do I become a member of SUSU?

Great news – as a student at the University of Southampton you are automatically a member of SUSU, your students’ union. You don’t need to do anything extra to enjoy everything we have to offer!

I have more questions! Who can I contact?

If you have more questions please get in touch, we are happy to help.
