Our Sustainability Strategy 2020

Sustainability and green issues are increasingly urgent causes in our society and are heavily supported by young people.

At SUSU we believe in taking responsibility for our student and wider community and are proud to champion, stand up for and represent the causes that students care about.

In the past year we have taken our own steps to improve our sustainability as an organisation, through measures such as the opening of our vegan & vegetarian café, a new zero waste shop, and our sustainability spotlight event. We have also run initiatives such as ensuring we use compostable items in SUSU events, run Pack for Good campaigns in collaboration with charities, and included smart recycling and Terracycle in our buildings. We have joined together with external groups, and our own student groups and societies, on projects across Southampton and make their voices heard.

However, we also recognise that to make a meaningful, sustainable impact, we need systemic change in how society operates around the world. Organisations such as the University play a critical part of this change. As such, we are delighted to be joining together with the University on this Sustainability Strategy – to make a positive difference, ensuring that the heart of the strategy includes the voices of both students and staff.

We will continue to stand strong on this issue and look forward to working with the University over the coming years to see its implementation. You can read the full strategy and handy two-page summary on our Strategy SharePoint.

For this strategy to be a success we need engagement and collaboration from all levels of the University, so please let us know your thoughts or any questions you may have by messaging bit.ly/OliviaTeams.
