In collaboration with the University’s Office for the Development of Alumni Relations, we are pleased to announce the launch of our Sports Clubs’ Coronavirus Appeal. The aim of the appeal is to raise money to help students continue participating in sports to the fullest extent possible during the coronavirus pandemic.
In a normal year, the Students’ Union is able to give a reasonable amount of funding to our sports clubs, allowing them to compete against other universities in competitions such as BUCS and to be able to afford coaching and equipment. Out of all the Universities competing in BUCS and the Student National Championships Series, Southampton came joint 1st for number of qualifying athletes and were the only club to have athletes qualify in sparring and poomsae (non-contact patterns of moves).
The European University Games will now take place 24 -27 July 2021 in Serbia due to the coronavirus pandemic.
To encourage donations 66 members of SUCC walked, ran or cycled a collective distance of over 5,000km in 2 weeks – over three times their original target distance! The original target of 1661km is the distance to Glen Etive and back, where the team would have been heading for a week long trip until it was cancelled due to Coronavirus.

SULLC decided for their fundraising challenge to collectively run the length of the UK, from John O’Groats in Scotland to Southampton, over 11 days. The club provided updates on their virtual location along with some great images saying hello from where they would be!

Congratulations to our Ladies Lacrosse 1st Team, who played Exeter 5ths on Wednesday 11 March in the final of the Western Conference Cup, winning with a score of 19-7! Their Club Captain, Amy, tells us more about their achievements this year…
Our Ladies 1st Team have won their league this year with a clean sheet! Seeing scores against Bournemouth 1st 15-3, Plymouth 1st 15-5 and UWE 1st 15-5.
Our team have worked hard this year, through both team bonding and training, to see our team move up the league, and ultimately push Southampton into higher levels of Lacrosse.

Congratulations to our Taekwondo Club who placed second overall in the first ever BUCS Taekwondo Championships!
