Jailbreak: What’s it all about?

You’ve probably heard it mentioned by now, the annual fundraising hitchhike organised by our amazing RAG has seen previous year’s volunteers reach Dubai, Morocco and Hong Kong. Jailbreak is one of the most exciting charity events you can get involved in but how does it all work? đŸ—şâœˆď¸

It’s simple. Groups of 2 or 3 compete in a race against time to get as far away from Southampton as possible, without spending any of their own money. Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Uni Boob Team

In General

1st October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and our very own Uni Boob Team are shouting from the rooftops about regularly checking your boobs.

You may have seen them spreading their boob wisdom around Campus and beyond, hosting Glitter Parties, cake sales, and ‘shower take-overs’, they’re all about raising awareness and having a good time doing it.

350 Pre-sessional Students Attend Saints Match

In General

Over 300 Pre-Sessional students supported Southampton ‘Saints’ FC in their recent Premier League match against Swansea FC on 12 August 2017, in a trip arranged by the University of Southampton Students’ Union.

Attending the football match was a brilliant way for our new students to feel welcomed into the Southampton community and a chance for them to get behind their new home team. It was also a chance to spend time with new friends and practice English language skills for their courses.

RAG Week 2017 – The Line-Up

RAG are celebrating their 90th birthday and what better way to celebrate than a week of exciting fundraisers from karaoke to a night out in a mystery city!

For 90 years, students in Southampton have been Raising and Giving to charity. This year, RAG are hoping to raise as much money as they can for their three nominated charities for the year:

  • Action Against Hunger
  • HCPT The Pilgrimage Trust
  • Alzheimer’s Society

OPSoc PGR students shed light on science at Winchester Cathedral Primary Science Festival

Postgraduate Research students from Optics and Photonics Society (OPSoc) took part in the Winchester Cathedral Primary Science Festival on 08 and 09 November.

The festival, now in its second year, helps pupils to explore science in the spectacular medieval building, working with scientists to carry out practical experiments.

Supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, the festival is organised to help Year 6 pupils gain an understanding of science in the working world including sound, geology and light as part of their Key Stage 2 Science National Curriculum studies.
