All Student Vote (International Students’ Tuition Fees): the result!

The results are in! With a total of 4,832 votes cast, 98% of students voted overwhelmingly in support of SUSU lobbying the University to reduce international students’ tuition fees.

Thank you to everyone who took part. We will now be using these results, alongside the other feedback we have received, to lobby the University on behalf of students.

All Student Vote (Halls Accommodation Fees) – the result!

Over December and the course of this week we have been having discussions with the University regarding rebates for University halls accommodation. Following a student led petition, in December SUSU launched an All Student Vote on this issue. 

A total of 2,704 votes were received with 95% of students voting to support the statement ‘The University should offer a partial refund of halls accommodation fees to all students in University halls.’ This turnout is over the 10% quoracy required for SUSU All Student Votes.

All Student Vote: Halls Accommodation Fees

Today we have launched an All Student Vote on the following statement:

“The University should offer a partial refund of halls accommodation fees to all students in University halls, to reflect the time that students have not spent in their halls because of the student travel window and the staggered return to campus in January.

Although we recognise that circumstances have been beyond the University’s control, if students have followed Government guidance they will have left halls early in December and returned late in January, so it is unfair that they should pay halls accommodation fees for that period. We

All Student Vote – The Result

Firstly, we would like to thank everyone who took the time to participate in this All Student Vote about the upcoming industrial strike action.

2,541 students voted. The voting breakdown is as follows:

I would like SUSU to support the cause and the action – 37%
I would like SUSU to support the cause but not the action – 35%
I do not want SUSU to support the cause or the action – 28%

All Student Vote: UCU Strike Action

In News

On Friday 14 February 2020 dates were confirmed of upcoming strike action by UCU. This is happening as part of a national dispute over the issues of pay, workload and pensions of a significant amount of University staff, including PGRs. As a result, the Students’ Union are holding a vote for students to decide whether we should support the strike action.

The vote is open from now until 16:00 on Wednesday 19 February 2020 and only takes about 30 seconds to complete.

All Student Vote and our next steps

Following a successful student petition, we conducted an All Student Vote between Monday 10 December and Friday 12 January to gather our members’ opinion on the current restructure of the University. The questions were created in conjunction with the students who submitted the petition, and results were as follows:

Do you believe that there has been full and clear consultation with students on this restructure?

Yes – 325 votes (15%)

No – 1,843 (85%)

 

Do you believe that the Vice-Chancellor’s pay should be cut as part of the restructure?

Yes – 2,035 votes (90.6%)

All Student Vote on the University Restructure

Hello there! My name is Evie Reilly – the Vice-President Democracy & Creative Industries for 2017/18. The end of term may be fast approaching, but we at the Students’ Union have today launched our first All Student Vote of the year.

The University is entering a period of restructure led by the Vice-Chancellor. As part of this, a 7% reduction in staff costs has been announced, with 50 to 75 academic staff posts at risk from across six departments. Logo Redesign Update

So what’s happened since our last update?

Following the All Student Vote in October where you voted to keep the Union Southampton branding with the SUSU name and the recent ideas survey, we have been busy working on the logo redesign based on your feedback. Many of you said that you would like to see more colour on the building signage and a few of you expressed concerns about the cost of the rebrand previously. The results are in! 4,831 of you have voted in our all student vote (individual voters). As part of our new democratic structure, we’ve run a series of All Student Votes in order to gain your input on a variety of topics so have a look at the results displayed below.
