Coming up: BEES Conference

We’re excited to announce that we’re holding a conference for BEES volunteers, staff and businesses on campus, on April 28th. The conference will focus on ‘Students and Businesses Transforming Their City’, and will be free for all attendees.
The conference will inspire and equip staff, students and businesses to deliver sustainability projects and solutions. The time will be used to explore how universities and students’ unions can work together to achieve sustainability, and what results teamwork like this can produce.

Fancy going behind the scenes of local businesses? Or gaining skills and work experience to add to your CV? Well you can do both by becoming BEES!

 

The Business Ethics and Environmental Students (BEES) team are about to head down to Portswood amongst other places, in order to audit local businesses on their sustainability practices, and we need your help to do so!

CRUMBS event to encourages sustainable waste disposal

A project which promotes sustainable waste disposal for businesses in the city will hold a free networking conference on Friday (12 September) which will explain how the scheme is helping to make Southampton a cleaner and greener place to live.

 

The CRUMBS project – Co-ordinates Re-Use Makes Business Sense – is being driven by Southampton County Council using European Regional Development Fund support, to provide suitable solutions to the problem of unwanted waste in businesses.

Sabbs talk sustainability

BEES (Business Ethics and Environment Students) recently held a sustainability meeting with the SUSU sabbs. The team decided that this year, their group goal would be to focus on employability.

 

The sabbs brainstormed ideas on improving sustainability within the SUSU focused on reaching more students with knowledge and skills relating to sustainability.

 

 

These practices, concentrated on saving water and energy and on promoting local produce over imported foods, should lead the students union to a more environmentally sustainable future. BEES Ready to go into Businesses

The Business Ethics and Environmental Students programme (BEES) are entering the next stage of development as they prepare to go into two new businesses.

BEES is a joint project between us and the University of Southampton, aiming to encourage sustainability by providing free sustainability auditing services to local organisations, carried out by student volunteers, then helping to implement improvements.
The official launch took place on 18 March this year, with a great turnout from local businesses and organisations.

BEES Student Launch

In General

The BEES project is entering the next stage of development as they prepare for their official launch on the 5 February. Taking place on the Red Brick, students will have the chance to learn more about the project, find out how they can get involved and enter a prize draw to win £50 to spend at the SUSU shop!

SUSU and the University of Southampton, first started work on BEES (Business Ethics & Environment, Students) in August when they beat competition from over 100 unions to win £175,000 funding from HEFCE to champion sustainability practices in local businesses.

Recruitment begins for BEES

Recruitment has officially started for Southampton University and SUSU’s student led project, BEES. Following on from the success of their recent intro event, BEES (Business Ethics & Environmental Students) are looking to recruit three new interns to help develop three different areas of the project. These positions include Business Engagement Assistant, Sustainability Practice Assistant and Online Presence Developer.  Each intern will play a vital role in the progression of BEES and the steps needed to take it out to local businesses and organisations.
