Following the Returning Officer’s statement last week, we thought it would be helpful to give more detail about how the elections work. Our elections are conducted in line with other Students’ Unions but we understand that most people will know little about the process.

All candidates are governed by the SUSU Rules, including Rule 7 (Elections), the Elections By-law and Spring Elections Guidance. So, you’ve decided to nominate yourself to represent students in our Spring Elections – that’s great! Take a look at our top tips below for every stage in our elections, from submitting your nomination, to campaigning, and those all-important votes. You can nominate yourself at susu.org/elections or suggest a friend at susu.org/representation/suggest-a-friend.

Talk to your course mates to see what problems they have faced as a student. Doing the groundwork before submitting your nomination can help you to have a campaign that speaks to your fellow students.

It’s the third day of our Spring Elections and what a week it has been so far! Voting is now open for our Spring Elections at www.unionsouthampton.org/vote or at one of our physical polling stations across campus.
Midday today saw the start of Voting Week in our Spring Elections, where all current University of Southampton students become eligible to cast their votes for the students that you want to lead our Union for the next academic year. All you need is your Student ID to be able to vote.
The voting period lasts until 16:00 on Friday (03 March).
With nominations now closed, we are pleased to introduce our candidates for the Spring Elections 2017.
We have received a healthy 51 nominations from students running for our Full-Time Officer and Student Leader roles and the figure includes an incredible five nominationsfor students running as Union President this year. The Union President is responsible for leading the Union and the Full-Time Officers. The role involves playing a key part in decision making across the Union, including chairing our Trustee Board and being in charge of Union finances.
